The Ciliwung River, Jakarta.
The Ciliwung River in Jakarta, Indonesia is one of the most polluted rivers in the world. Chaotic urban growth, industrial pollution and run-off from upstream agricultural activity have put increasing pressure on the river, reducing its surface and therefore increasing the risk of floods.
As part of the “Landscape Ecology” module of ETH Future Cities Laboratory research project, I was sent to document predefined key hotspots along the river, from its source at the foot of Gunung Salak, down to its mouth in the bay of Jakarta.
